‘Zionist’ is not hate speech, activists say – Everything Law and Order Blog

A Saturday Night Live joke about Israel’s vaccine apartheid sparked outrage from some ardent supporters of the Israeli government, but the controversy speaks to larger threats to free speech in the digital age, especially when it comes to criticisms of Zionism. At this very moment, tech giant Facebook is considering whether or not to respond to calls to ban the term “Zionist” as anti-Semitic hate speech.

TRNN’s Jaisal Noor speaks with Jewish Voice For Peace’s Rabbi Alissa Wise about the “Facebook, We Need to Talk” campaign and the long history of tech companies censoring the voices of Palestinians who are resisting military occupation.

  1. Thank you for looking out for all. I found out my great grandparents escaped from a Jewish ghetto in Russia. I remember being excited to explore the world of Judaism and language and the culture. But when I found out what they were doing to the Palestinians I felt great shame and disappointment. I think my great-grandmother would feel the same. Having escaped suppression herself. What the Zionist and the Israeli government have done is wrong, shameful and needs to be rectified. Free Palestine.

  2. They crazy rasist ,,, you should say what you want,,,,,,no cap,, smart people no what's going on 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

  3. How is antisemitism rising in the on the right here in Amerikkkka with Trump power moves for Israel and we got all these Evangelicals here … this is confusing on purpose.

  4. Israel cannot be criticized no matter what they do because they got power over politicians over here ? … follow the money … is it hate to stop the Palestinians from having a internet voice ?

  5. That'd be akin to saying using 'nazi' about the nazis was anti german. No, that's why people don't use 'german'.

  6. Here in Toronto, Canada a store was vandalized because the owner put a sign in the window that said, "I support Palestinians." When the police arrived to investigate they refused to arrest the Jewish people responsible for smashing the windows. The Israeli government, and many Jews, have weaponized the word "antisemitism" to the point that even the police in Canada are afraid to do their jobs.

  7. Police will only become accountable for their crimminal actions, when they are forced to pay restitution out of their own pocket. Once the officer has exhausted their bank account, and other property, the rest should be paid by the police union, and finally the police pension plan. Then it should be put to a vote of their police peers, to see if the force finds the officer eligible for further employment.
A better system would be to insure each officer by private insurance carrier of their choosing. Once an officer has incured to much liability, their raising insurance premiums will negate their own employment. This will leave good officers with a strong union, and a safe pension fund.
The time has come to change the way police perceive their treatment of the public, and understanding of the law as it applies to them.

  8. I feel offended when white people call themselves a Black Jew with burned bronzed skin and woolly textured hair from Negro land…. Now silence that….

  9. Indeed, being Jewish and being Zionist ARE NOT the same thing. I posted comments saying this starting maybe 15 years ago. This young rabbi woman speaks very well. She has good wit.
