Baltimore police and prosecutors have launched investigations after being alerted to body camera footage that the public defender’s office says shows an officer planting drugs. The footage is from a January drug arrest. It shows an officer placing a soup can, which holds a plastic bag, into a trash strewn lot. The officer can then be seen walking to the street, where he flips on his body camera. “I’m gonna go check here,” the officer says. He returns to the lot and picks up the soup can, removing a plastic bag filled with white capsules. Police cameras have a feature that saves the 30 seconds of video prior to activation, but without audio. When the officer is first in the alley, there is no audio until 30 seconds later. “We take allegations like this very seriously and that’s why we launched an internal investigation into the accusations,” said Police Department spokesman T.J. Smith. “We are fortunate to have body worn cameras which provide a perspective of the event.”

The public defender’s office flagged the video recently, prompting prosecutors to drop charges against the man arrested and charged for the drugs. He had been in jail since January on a $50,000 bail he was unable to pay, according to attorney Deborah Levi, who is leading a new effort to track police misconduct cases for the public defender’s office. Levi said prosecutors just days later called the officer as a witness in another case, without disclosing the allegations to the defense attorney in that case. “You can’t try a case with that guy and not tell anyone about it,” Levi said. Melba Saunders, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office, said prosecutors are looking into the video, which she called “troubling.” Saunders said the prosecutor on the case “took immediate and appropriate actions by dropping the case and alerting his supervisor.” “Currently this case is under investigation and has been referred to internal affairs of the Baltimore Police Department,” Saunders said.

  1. Apparently what I heard was that these guys actually did find those drugs hidden in that lot but the reason why they planted them was just to show where they found the drugs because this guys camera wasn’t recording, but this guy forgot that the body camera plays back 30 seconds before you manually turn on the camera…to conclude, that’s a big yikes

  2. This is def drug unit, or else they wouldn’t be wearing plane clothes and have the cars they do.

  3. This footage does make you wonder, how many times a 'perp' has been hauled up front of the booking desk and is pleads with the Sgt on duty about how 'the pig planted that shit'! What's worse? The obvious questionable prior drug arrests that this cop has executed. What a mess.

  4. Fucking disgusting. Bad acts performed by a few criminals with badges are destroying the reputation of all cops. This piece of shit and his accomplices needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. This kind of thing pisses me off more than a normal random criminal. Sometimes you can have sympathy for a criminal, being in a bad situation and with a bad upbringing making a bad decision in the heat of the moment, but a cop that plants evidence which sends an innocent man to jail is unforgivable.

  5. Lol next time b4 u plant drugs and evidence to arrest someone make sure ur camera isnt on dumbass hope u got fired and jail time cuz ir either buying drugs or stealing them from evidence you pos

  6. Yeah, makes total sense to search a totally trash filled area & better yet FIND them immediately…all captured on YOUR OWN body camera…it seriously looks like some low budget video short for a community college film class 🤣

  7. This happend to me one time, guy pulled me over searched the vehicle and said he found a needle cap wich was complete bs . Let me go after the backup guy showed up

  8. All three cops are criminals. And let me guess, they kept their jobs and now next time they know better how to manage their camera?

  9. These three “cops” should be in prison by now…
But my guess is they arent
And my other guess is that some are even still cop.
What I could find is that the cop planting the evidence was suspended. WITH PAY.
They even found some small misdemeanor charge against him. NOT EVEN A FELONY!

  10. I know he planted it but even if the cam was off, when he went back to look for it with the cam on, him finding it within 3.5 seconds said enough cause he went straight to where it was.

  11. Donut did a vid about this, and apparently he had already found the drugs but wanted it on tape, and he accidentally turned it on a few seconds before he was originally going to start it, but idk

  12. What is even the benefit? Just to fuck someone over? Like those drugs came from somewhere. Why not just tie them to that arrest. Or did they buy drugs just to plant them? Something weird is going on here.

  13. I hope this cop got justice coming to him if not it is sad. If he gets off clean why the public be cleaned as well. Cops should behold responsibly as well. They should not get a jail free card when they break the law. Sadly, these bad cops like this one taking away the public's rights everyday

  14. He miscounted the 30 second pre-recording time. He thought he waited at the street long enough to lose that footage. Also, I'm gonna guess that they found it already, but mishandled it somehow and were trying to re-create the find on camera. BUT, that can't be proven, and this looks much worse. Even IF their intentions were good, and i'm not saying they were, it looks absolutely terrible and they should all see jail time for it.
Why they should all go to jail:
    1. Public faith in the justice system.
    2. All the criminals who now go free because this officer's evidence is thrown out.
    3. All possible false convictions based on this officer's evidence (and false arrests like the man in this case).
    4. Tax payer money wasted on lawsuits caused by this.
