INCIDENT VIDEO 1:
This is body-worn camera video from Volusia Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brady Bergeron, who was involved in yesterday’s November 21- 2020 shooting of an armed suspect who shot and wounded a New Smyrna Beach police officer.

The deceased suspect was identified as Matthew Thomas, 25, of Holly Hill.

Deputy Bergeron, 24, was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in April 2019 and has prior law enforcement experience at Daytona Beach PD.

The injured officer from New Smyrna Beach Police Department is Ralph Hunnefeld. Hunnefeld and his fellow NSBPD officers David McCallister and Margaret Deal also returned fire at Thomas.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the investigation into this shooting.

NSB POLICE OFFICER WOUNDED IN SHOOTING; SUSPECT KILLED WHEN POLICE AND DEPUTY RETURN FIRE

An armed suspect who fled from police this afternoon in Port Orange shot and wounded a New Smyrna Beach police officer before police and a Volusia sheriff’s deputy returned fire, killing him. The NSB police officer was taken to a hospital and is recovering from his injury.

The incident started around 4 p.m. at Nova and Spruce Creek roads, where a Port Orange police officer attempted a traffic stop on a driver of a green Lincoln sedan who took off fleeing recklessly at high speed. Officers followed the car at a distance as it headed toward New Smyrna Beach.

When the car reached the area of Turnbull Street and Industrial Park Avenue, a deputy deployed stop sticks and the car crashed outside a storage facility, where the suspect bailed out and ultimately started firing at police. Around 4:17 p.m., the officer was shot. Moments later, the suspect was shot by return fire.

INCIDENT VIDEO 2 with the same Volusia Sheriff’s Deputy Brady Bergeron:
STRANDED MOM FINDS KINDNESS FROM VOLUSIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Two Volusia sheriff’s deputies opened their hearts and their wallets early Wednesday to help an Orlando mom who was found at a gas station in New Smyrna Beach with no money for a place to stay, nor a second car seat to travel safely with her two small daughters.

Deputies learned of the family’s plight from an off-duty Seminole sheriff’s deputy who said the woman was observed driving with an infant on her lap and then looking for help at the BP station at State Road 44/County Road 415.

The woman told Volusia deputies she was traveling to the beach for a few days and planned to rent an Airbnb in New Smyrna Beach, using her debit card to pay for it. But she said she had no money because her debit card and ID had been stolen in Orlando. She said she was asking for money to buy gas.

After Deputy Brady Bergeron noticed her car contained only one car seat for a toddler and no seat for her 5-month-old infant, the woman said she had no way to pay for a car seat and no friends or family that could help her.

So Deputy Bergeron went to Wal-Mart and bought a car seat for the baby to travel in. He installed the new car seat and safely adjusted the existing car seat for her 2-year-old sister. Food and water were provided from the BP station.

After determining the family had no place to stay for the night, VSO Sgt. Austin Hairston followed suit and made arrangements for the family to stay at a hotel in Edgewater. Deputies followed the family to the hotel where they helped them check in.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood commended the dedication and generosity of the deputies who stepped in to help a citizen in need. All involved will be receiving letters of commendation.

  2. Thank you for ending the video in this manner. Not many people get to witness the good deeds that LEOs do. My father is a retired LEO of 28 years, he's had two instances in his career where babies fell out of cars into the middle of busy Miami streets because they weren't secured in a car seat. He was lucky to be behind the cars to stop traffic and save the babies from being ran over, all while the parent(s) proceeded to drive away as if nothing happened. I used to be very curious as to what my dad witnessed in his career, but being a Mother now, I'm happy to not know the extent of what he's seen.

  3. Regardless of all the BS in this department, those officers used their own money and time to help a family and small children. It’s the small acts of kindless like this that make all the difference in this shitty world right now…

  4. Why people chooses to be criminal and die in a loser shootout with the police? Makes no sense to me.
Charity should be done by the Community, is Police know about it, should be a way for like in this case, the police let the Community know, someone needs help and company, not just resources

  5. Now THAT'S a hero who runs from his covered area, doesn't stop to peek around the corner before running full speed placing others behind him. Too bad so many corrupt officers ruin it for these men & women. The good ones really don't get the respect & recognition they deserve.
    👏👏👏👏👏

& those car seats! 🤦‍♀️ I felt his pain 😂

  6. 2:32 The cowboy boots and the offer of assistance. I get high and this channel transports me somewhere else entirely.. usually with my palms sweating the vids can be so intense.

  7. It's really sad when you see troubled people who run from police and shoot at them who are killed in return, but then for the same officer who pulled the trigger to go out and do such wonderful things for a family in need, well it helps restore your faith in humanity as well as our police forces. We need more cops like these. Good job gentlemen!

  8. omfg this officer we are watching is literally like when your the main character in the video game is this dude suppose to be the front line leader guy or did he just decide that!? Cause he was just going man he didn’t give a shit about danger it was epic
