Chicago, Illinois — Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released body camera footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred at South Shore neighborhood on Jan. 4, 2020. Officers were responding to calls of a man with a large knife robbing people outside businesses near 79th and Marquette. Bodycam and surveillance camera footage shows two officers chasing Davis on foot. Davis stopped in front of a store as officers tried to get him to drop his knife. A female officer tased Davis and when that didn’t work, police say they had to use lethal force. Davis was shot at about 3:15 p.m. when the man continued to walk toward officers while holding a knife, despite having been told to drop the weapon. Davis was transported to the University of Chicago in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
