Louisville, Kentucky — Officials with the Louisville Metro Police Department released more details and body camera footage from a fatal shooting of a man by an LMPD officer on March 30th. That officer has been identified as Officer Michael Johnson of LMPD’s First Division. According to Lt. Ted Eidem of LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit, an officer with the Heritage Creek Police Department was working off duty at the Dosker Manor housing complex at the 400 block of East Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Security at Dosker Manor, had been having issues over the past week, regarding a subject who was threatening residents using disparaging remarks and was reported to have displayed a handgun in a threatening manner.

They also learned that the suspect had an outstanding bench warrant. The suspect was identified as Jessie Stringfield, 44. Until yesterday, police and security were not able to make contact with Stringfield. The off duty officer was told that disorderly suspect was seen on foot leaving Dosker Manor, the officer left on foot to try to locate it. The officer spotted Stringfield in the area of South Preston Street and East Chestnutt. However, he fled westbound once he saw the officer. The officer called on the L.M.P.D. First Division Dispatch Channel to request assistance. He Advised responding officers that the suspect had an outstanding bench warrant and fled on foot, that he was known to have carried a handgun.

The University of Louisville police officer working downtown, who also monitors the First Division Dispatch channel, located Mr. Stringfield on the 200 block of E. Gray St, who found entrance to the parking garage. UofL officer was backed by L.M.P.D. First Division Downtown Area Patrol Officer Michael Johnson. Officer Johnson had his weapon drawn and ordered the suspect to stop, but Stringfield was uncooperative. The UofL officer grabbed the suspect and attempted to gain control. Officer Johnson began to holster his weapon and help to physically control the suspect. Stringfield reached for his waistband and began to pull out his handgun. Officer Johnson redrew his weapon and fired one shot, striking the suspect. Additional officers quickly arrived on scene, began to render first aid. Stringfield was transported by E.M.S. to University of a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. As part of the scene processing, Police recovered a handgun which was in possession of Stringfield.

  3. Equal pay my ass. Male cop 1 hands on with armed man. Male cop 2 hands on and quick reaction shoots armed man. Female cop comes up as a casual observer and does nothing. Male cop 3 last on scene tells female to get out of the way and handcuffs armed man while female cop still does nothing.
