Deltona, Florida — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage of a search party after a toddler was found wandering the streets alone on Mother’s Day. After talking with the group of locals watching the toddler, the Deputies learned that a 13 years old boy was the first to find the boy and stayed with him until help arrived. “Cause I looked up, cause I was just playing basketball, and I’m pretty sure he came this way and he was coming down the street and I started looking around. I was, like, ‘here’s a random child just standing in the middle of the road.’ And I looked up and no one was around, so he started walking back … I ran after him,” the older boy said.

The deputies took the toddler’s photograph and knocked on doors at houses throughout the neighborhood. Deputies were able to track down mom. They found a house with an open door and spoke with the toddler’s frantic mother, who said she was asleep. She was reunited with her smiling child, and a deputy recommended the mother purchase childproof door locks to avoid a repeat escape.

  1. I don't want to sexualize him or anything, but that tall black deputy could place me in cuffs any day. Alright sorry.

  2. I'm so glad that the 13 year old boy found him and stayed with him until help arrived .Parents need to be more careful and keep an eye on their children .

  10. That can happen to anyone. It’s hard when you have smart lil toddlers that can open the front door, even if it’s locked and has the door chain latched on….
Once when my eldest daughter was 18 months and my second daughter was 5 months old. It was around 5 am, I had already gotten the girls dressed cus we were going to an appointment. I was getting myself ready, doing makeup and hair. When I walked into the living room and saw the front door open. I ran outside and saw my 18 month old daughter coming out of my neighbors apartment. My neighbor and I were great friends… Well my daughter had gone inside her apartment, walked into her room, saw that she was asleep and walked back out. HAHA The only reason I found that funny is because I found my daughter right away and she was fine. If I hadn’t, I would of been freaking out.

  11. When I was his age, my parents tried everything except locking me in a cage. I always found a way to escape. The police always brought me back home. They didn't have those plastic door knob things back then. They wouldn't work because I usually didn't go through the door.
