Waukegan, Illinois — The Waukegan Police Department released footage of an officer-involved shooting after a man tried to run over a police officer with a car in February 3, 2019. On Aug. 7, 2019, Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim ruled that the officer acted “reasonably and appropriately” in the fatal shooting of Asuncion J. Gomez-Guerrero, according to a statement by the state’s attorney’s office. The 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

These two police body camera videos and a cellphone video were released to the public on the city of Waukegan’s website: https://www.waukeganil.gov/814/Police-Videos—Press-Release

  1. no rational person would call this justified. The cop literally stepped in front of the car and it's not like the car was driving at full speed. The car was obviously trying to drive off, not hit the officer. the officer should be jailed. Stuff like this is why public relations with the police are so bad. cops are on OUR payroll. Stop excusing bad behaviors.

  2. Looks like the suspect was just tying to get away not actually run over the officer. Poor reason to open up fire at point blank rage on a citizen. If that person was actually trying to run over the cop, they would have put the pedal to the medal and ran him over.

  8. Certainly justified. The officer didn't need to move out the way and injury isn't required to first shoot. The suspect clearly showed they would run him down and didn't care to do so. So many people in the comment section hating the officer for not moving out the way and saying unjustified obvoiusly don't know a person's right to self-defense. The law clear states: "A person’s right to self-defense is the same whether the danger is real or merely apparent. If the person’s beliefs were reasonable, the danger does not need to have actually existed. What constitutes 'reasonable' self-defense or defense of others is controlled by the circumstances. The question is whether action was instantly required to avoid death or great bodily injury. In this regard, there is no duty to wait until an injury has been inflicted to be sure that deadly force is indeed appropriate. There is no requirement that a person (including a police officer) retreat even if safety could have been achieved by retreating. In addition, police officers are not constitutionally required to use all feasible alternatives to avoid a situation where the use of deadly force is reasonable and justified."

  9. What fucking dumbass cop STANDS IN FRONT OF A CAR… HMMM LETS THINK. THE COP WHO DOES IT ON PURPOSE. BECAUSE YOU WERE TRYIMG TO SHOOT THIS GUY THATS WHY. Fucking crooked azz cop I swear why they dont hold you guys accountable for this shyt I'll never know.

  10. I'll never understand why cops stand in front of vehicles like that. If that dusw had floored it that cop could have been balled up underneath that thing..

  11. That was a dumb move by the police officer. The suspect could have killed someone while being unconscious with his foot on the pedal.

  12. When are dumb motherfukers going to learn that police officers can and will shoot you if you try to run them over.
Not that you should ever run from the cops, but if you do make sure there's no cops in front of the vehicle and you have a clear path to drive away so you don't get your ass shot up

  13. Jesus christ that cop was so poorly trained.
Every cop would know to NEVER fucking put themselves directly in front or behind a moving vehicle.
And then even stands there in front of it as if he's gona fucking stop it.
Fucking idiot's gona get himself killed with that kinda stupidity.

  14. Could the police officer not just taken a couple of strides to the side? He was accelerating slowly. Why are they so quick to use lethal force? I saw one with a guy on a footbridge. Alone. He had a knife. He came towards the police and they shot him. Why? They could’ve just kept backing up. Taser him.
