26. City officials settled a lawsuit with a man who claimed Tallahassee police officers falsely arrested him and tased his dog. The lawsuit initially filed in January by Don P. Arellano was settled for $30,000 in federal court on March 29. Arellano, through his attorneys Michael MacNamara and Josh Zelman, said he was falsely arrested in June 2014 and claimed he was maliciously prosecuted, had his constitutional right against unreasonable searches and seizures violated and was battered by TPD officers Stewart Clendinen and Robert Wells.

    Arellano was arrested for allegedly threatening a motorist in southwest Tallahassee and later jumping onto the hood of another car and attacking the driver later that day. Another man was arrested for the crime a month later. Charges against Arellano were dropped by prosecutors 17 months after his arrest. TPD Spokesman Officer David Northway said the two officers have returned to active duty and their use of force was found to be justified.
