Don Hightower, the 59-year-old grandfather whose mysterious disappearance captured the hearts of many, has been found after a year. He was located in a neighboring county, marking a significant breakthrough in a case that involved extensive search efforts by multiple agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Eastman Field Office and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
His car was the first to be found by a deerhunter on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 after he was last seen Oct. 30, 2021 around 8 p.m. when he left his sister’s home. Don was located shortly there after, not far from his car.
While AWP did not find Don, this Two-Part series documents the dedicated efforts of not just Adventures With Purpose, but also his family and an entire community who are committed to bringing Don home.

Our search intensifies on Day 2 as we cover expansive terrains, exploring every possible nook using drones and on-foot searches alongside sonar scans of multiple water bodies. Our focus remains sharp on a 2003 gold Toyota Camry, the vehicle Don was last seen driving, which blends easily with the autumnal landscape.
Areas that were not thoroughly searched the previous day is the focus. Utilizing high-tech drones, we investigate under canopies and brush, areas where a helicopter’s view might be obstructed. This methodical expansion of our search areas ensures that we miss no potential clues.
The local community’s involvement with insights and leads coming from neighbors and friends. Their participation is crucial, as they provide us with additional areas to search and confirm paths Don might have taken.
Conversations with Don’s sons provide a moving insight into his life—his role as a grandfather, his routine interactions, and his last known activities. These personal stories highlight the urgency and emotional depth of our search.
As the day progresses, the complexity of the search becomes evident. Despite our best efforts and the technology at our disposal, the mystery surrounding Don’s disappearance deepens. The lack of conclusive evidence or sightings adds a poignant layer to our mission.

A Lake It was in a very well hidden isolated place 10 pair's of women's high leg boots and high heels shoes found next to the Lake. Very sad for his family, but very glad he has finally been found – AWPwere on the right track thinking he may have run off the road – there was a case in Wales where the car crashed through a roundabout and ended up in trees and was found days later – I think 1 occupant was saved. It's as if cars need a crash beacon which could somehow be triggered, with the air bags… RIP…
