On December 29, 2013, Donnie left his home in Camdenton, Missouri, to buy cigarettes and never returned. His disappearance in his 2002 silver Hyundai Elantra (license plate MKGE3P) left his family and friends in deep despair. Nearly a decade later, Adventures With Purpose (AWP), a team renowned for solving cold cases, took on the mission to find Donnie and bring closure to his loved ones.

FOUND 10-YEARS LATER: The Case of Donnie Lee Erwin Solved!

On Day 3, AWP expanded their search area within a 15-mile radius of Donnie’s home. They began the day at a Veteran’s recreational site, considering the possibility that Donnie might have chosen a quiet place to end his life. This insight was informed by Donnie’s family, who had shared his struggles with depression and chronic pain. Donnie had already lost his left leg and was preparing for the amputation of his right leg.

AWP’s use of advanced technology, including sonar and live scope imaging, played a crucial role in their search efforts. These tools allowed the team to scan various bodies of water with precision, identifying potential targets and eliminating false leads. The clear view provided by the technology ensured that no stone was left unturned.

Throughout the day, the team meticulously scanned multiple locations, including secluded boat ramps and potential launch points. Early in the search, the team investigated a potential lead near a boat ramp but found it to be a dead end. The shallow waters and rocky terrain made it improbable for a vehicle to have driven into the water unnoticed. Despite this, the team pressed on, determined to explore every possibility.

The team then moved to another location known for its seclusion. This site, with its deep waters and easy access, seemed a likely spot if Donnie had indeed chosen to end his life quietly. Using sonar, the team scanned the area thoroughly but found no sign of Donnie’s vehicle. Each sweep of the sonar brought the team closer to understanding the layout of the underwater terrain, helping them eliminate yet another location.

The day’s efforts were not without challenges. While navigating the rugged terrain of the Ozarks, the team’s RV became stuck. This unexpected obstacle required them to call for assistance. The delay, though frustrating, did not dampen their spirits. The team used the downtime to strategize and review their plans, ensuring that they remained focused on their mission.

The assistance from local community members was invaluable. A local tow truck operator helped free the RV, allowing the team to continue their search. This collaborative effort underscored the importance of community involvement in such endeavors. The support and encouragement from local residents and online followers provided the team with much-needed motivation.

The emotional toll of the search was evident, particularly for Donnie’s sister, Yvonne, who had been seeking answers for nearly a decade. AWP’s dedication to their mission extends beyond finding missing persons; it is about healing the wounds left by their absence.
