SC Law is kinda weird. According 15-5 SC LOE's are allowed to do an inventory search prior to it being towed. IE if the person had a hunting rifle in the trunk that would be booked as personal property into the PD's inventory. Just a good way to protect the persons property. There was a case from SC back in the mid 80's where a suspect sued the PD stating that they didn't secure a valuable item prior to the vehicle getting towed. The PD because they failed to do so had to shell out a major amount of money for this.

Troopers in SC will give you a ticket and have you call someone to come drive the car. These fucks will take you to jail, tow your car and cost you your job over a traffic ticket… Meanwhile they have one of the, if not the highest violent crime-per capital in the state. Shootings, drive by shootings, the drugs are horrible down there. But hey, take someone to jail over a traffic ticket.

I just don't get it – where I live this would have been a ticket, and a phone call to have someone pickup the car. If they dragged a citizen off to jail for this, especially during the pandemic when most everyone is broke, and then towed their vehicle, they would have half this citizen's neighborhood descend on the PD the next morning to have a chat. FFS we pay these people's salaries, we don't need to accept the rules they set, it's policing by consent, and if they refuse then we must defund them, thrown them out on the streets minus their paycheck, gun, badge, and qualified immunity, and then create the law enforcement we are willing to consent to.
We already know the town leadership does not respect the law or the citizens. They call It Murder Beach. North Myrtle just announced a new police chief. We hope he has integrity but am not yet sure. I hope they can pass the test.
